Sir Thomas Alfred

Persona Bio

14th Century English Persona: Born in 1329 in Pembroke Castle to an English Father and Welsh Mother and was introduced to Castle Life at an early age. As part of the Pembroke Castle Household Thomas learned to fight and ride and found his place among the Castle Guard at an early age. In the summer of 1346 he was part of the Castle contingent sent to support King Edward III in his claim for the Throne of France. This claim would come to a head on 26 August 1346 near Crecy in northern France. Thomas fought in the Division lead by Edward the young Prince of Wales (who would later become known as the Black Prince). The Division fought in the thick of the fight during the battle where Prince Edward won his Spurs and Thomas caught the eye of several Knights who saw his potential. Soon after the battle he was squired to Sir Alexander Brighthelmston. After many more battles and years of service to the Kingdom Thomas too won his Spurs.

Darkage Persona: As a warrior during the late Migration Period and Early Viking age (late 700s AD) he lived during an age where men learned to fight quickly or died. He sailed on some of the first expeditions during the start of the Norsemen expansion, which would later become known as the Viking Age. He was introduced to the green Island (now known as England) during raids conducted upon the Saxon people. The Saxons had invaded and settled the Island after the fall of the Roman Empire, now the Norsemen were invading, drawn by rich farmland and monastery gold. After many years in fierce combat he earned his reputation as a stout warrior and was recognized as a Bear. As a raider and warrior on land and sea, he became master of the horse and ship, and gathered to him a crew of Danish, Saxon, and Irish warriors simply known as the Longship Crew. In later years he settled among the Saxons and became known as Alfred Warlord of Wessex.

Sir Khalil ibn Abd al-Rahman

Personal Biography

Khalil ibn Abd al_Rahman was born in 1193, the year of the death of the great Sultan Salah ad Din, founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. His father served in the Manluk cavalry of Salah ad Din until the Sultan’s death. His mother died when he was young, and his father thought it best to place him somewhere he would have an opportunity to excel if he was strong enough. At the age of eight, his father turned him over to Egyptian merchants, who sold him to the Sultan’s men at arms.

He was supported and educated, and taught the use of weapons and bows – often displaying his prowess before the Sultan himself. As he gained strength he was given real weapons, and when he matured he was inducted into the Halka, or king’s guard.

Khalil served under Sultan Al Kamil at the battle of Mansura on July 24 1221 during first Egyptian Crusade (also known as the 5th Crusade, 1218-1221), under the command of Turan Shah.

In the SCA, Khalil began in the then Principality of AEthelmearc. He eventually migrated to the Kingdom of Meridies where he has made his home.

Sir Ingolf of Clontarf

“And then they all three cried, Sir Knight, we yield us unto you as man of might matchless. As to that, said Sir Launcelot, I will not take your yielding unto me, but so that ye yield you unto Sir Kay the seneschal, on that covenant I will save your lives and else not…”

-Mark Twain, ‘A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court’.

Sir Caius Aurelius

Personal Biography

Persona: Caius is the Praefectus alae of a roman auxiliary that resides in a garrison along Hadrian’s wall. He was raised in Rome, but following in the footsteps of his father he quickly showed aptitude with horse and chose to join the equites chortales of Legio XX.

SCA: I am Sir Caius Aurelius. I joined the SCA in 1995, and attended my first event that July. Sir Jean-Claude Von Adlerstaat, then Baron of Iron Mountain took me, and made sure I was garbed. There I met so many wonderful people that I am still friends with to this day, and saw my first tournament. I was hooked. I have had many wonderful years, and added many wonderful people to the rank of friend. Meridies is where my heart is and my fealty will never change. There are no words that can describe my joy of being part of this great order.

Sir Erick Griffin

Personal Biography

I was born around 1050. The third son of a struggling artisan, Erick set out to claim is own destiny. Ireland was not a wealthy land, so travels took him far from home. Working on sailing vessels and learning trades allowed the youth to develop skills leading to profit and prominence along the trade routes of Europe.

During his travels he learned to fight from great knights and Dukes of the known world. He found himself firmly planted in the Shire of Rising Stone among friends and family after the birth of his only daughter Elizabeth.

In Society, I am blessed to have been the squire of Duke Caspar Krieger. His knowledge and patience helped me learn the ways of a knight, while my local shire’s abundance of Dukes and great fighters worked on my prowess.

I was inducted into the Order of the Argent Shield, then the Legion of the Bear, Legio Ursi, and later recognized by the Order of the Sable Sword. This is a true warrior’s path and constitutes all the fighting awards available in the kingdom for heavy fighting. I was knighted at the Meridian Grand Tournament in 2011.

My house is a member of Gewalthaufen, a gathering of households forming a great house, wherein we pool our talents and provide service and strength for our kingdom.
